"13th of January is the official day of commemoration of the brutal military events which happened in Lithuania 25 years ago. Reacting to the re-establishment of the Independent State of Lithuania, Soviet troops killed 14 civilians, and 702 were injured.

The period of independence enabled Lithuania to become a free and democratic state, to join the family of European nations. The spirit of solidarity, unity and the power of peaceful resistance against brutality is the most important lesson of dramatic events of January, 1991."
